It is a sad fact that theft of trailers plant construction and agricultural equipment has reached an all time high theft is a major problem for everyone involved in the industry from major hire and haulage companies through to smaller family and self run businesses.
Trailers and such like equipment prove to be magnets for criminals who know hundred if not thousands of pounds worth of plant can be relatively easily stolen, there is a huge demand for used plant, trailers and equipment in the UK, Ireland, Eastern Europe, The Middle East, Africa and Asia.
In its 2009 equipment theft report the national plant and equipment register (TER) revealed that equipment theft was up in 2008 by 20% up in numbers by 4324 recorded thefts and by 13% in value of £43 million, the highest it’s ever been. The report links parts of the plant & equipment industry to Wild West of old, with the little regulation, high case resale value and very low levels of policing either by law enforcement or the industries involved. It points out that the recovery rate for stolen plant and equipment is
currently less than 5%
